Description:
Sodium Copper Chlorophylin is a kind of natural green pigment. It is dark green powder extracted from natural green plant tissues, such as the leaves of silkworm manure, clover, alfalfa, bamboo and other plants.

During extraction, organic solvents such as acetone, methanol, ethanol, and petroleum ether are used. After extraction, copper and sodium ion replaces magnesium ion in the center of chlorophyll. Meanwhile, by saponificaion with alkali, the carboxyl group (formed after removing the methyl group and phytol group) becomes the disodium salt.

Therefore, Sodium Copper Chlorophyllin is a semi-synthetic pigment. According to the similar structure and production principal, there are Sodium Iron Chlorophyll, Sodium Zinc Chlorophyll, and etc.
